Catherine Garcia founder of Philanthropy Con Café

Hi! I'm Cathy García.

Justice-driven.

Practical dreamer.

Esperanza's daughter.

Moving resources to communities of color is my life's work.

I've mobilized $50 million in philanthropic capital to strengthen community-driven work at the intersection of economic and racial justice as program lead at institutions like Citi Foundation, Robin Hood, and The Prudential Foundation.  I've counseled hundreds of nonprofit leaders on organizational capacity and leadership, and designed, built, and scaled funds, initiatives, and programs across grant strategies and issue areas. Most recently, I led a national learning network for grant-makers leveraging technology to build capacity.  My road here began as an organizer championing environmental justice and equitable renewable energy policies with the New York Public Interest Research Group and the Center for Sustainable Energy at Bronx Community College.

The wisdom and love of a vibrant Colombian immigrant community grounds me. I learned philanthropy as praxis in childhood, sharing meals with neighbors across apartment building halls in Queens, New York, and communal care in the rural mountains of Roldanillo, Colombia.  My Mami, mis tias y mi abuela are the faces of philanthropy to me.

About PCC

Like most institutions in 2020, philanthropy was forced to reckon with its history and the inequalities that make concentrated wealth possible.  We witnessed what was possible when courageous, bold grant-makers reckoned with their power and privilege and reimagined their role in the world.

Initially envisioned as a digital media outlet to amplify grantmakers and co-conspirators of color, PCC has since moved to serve in a different way by laser focusing on turning bold audacious visions into meaningful action.  We're inspired by bold grant-makers who long built the blueprint for how we do this work and can't wait to work with you towards a new North Star!
